I love making money. It means I can fly first class, drink nice champagne, and get weekly massages. It also means that I’ve been put in an incredibly fortunate position to live in contribution.
I donate a portion of everything I earn from all of my courses, packages, and services to FreeFrom, an incredible organization that works to help survivors of domestic violence achieve financial stability so that they can build lives free from violence for themselves and their children.
Why do I do this? In 2010, I was a victim of domestic violence. (You can read more about my story here). Since then, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have been able to build a stable and lucrative business that has provided more financial independence and abundance than I could have ever imagined. But many other women in abusive relationships aren’t so lucky. Faced with the choice between a shelter and returning home, they make the dangerous choice of going back to their abuser… and finances are usually a part of this decision. That’s if they even have the financial means to leave in the first place.
FreeFrom’s goal is to help survivors start their own small businesses and cooperatives through incubator support – business planning, accounting training, legal help, strategic consulting – and startup grants. I can’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate where I’ve come from and arrived at, than to support an organization that is tackling this important work.
Writing those checks to FreeFrom each month keeps me grounded and grateful. I hope you’ll choose to join me in support of this crucial women’s cause.
